marilyn vs. dorothy

sooo i did some cyber searching & found out that dorothy & marilyn were very good friends myra panache wrote that "after Dandridge would finish performing with the Desi Arnez band in Hollywood, she would call Monroe. They would talk for hours about their careers, problems with men and racism in Hollywood. Dandridge, Monroe and Ava Gardner often went to parties together."
she added "Monroe never tried to hide her friendship with Dandridge. Since it was so unpopular for whites to have black friends during those segregated times, white media outlets refused to report on their friendship, even if they were peers in the same field."
This year, on September 8, will mark the 44th anniversary of Dorothy Dandridge's death.
& its so weird that they both died in similar ways of a pill overdose they both were really beautiful dorothy had a more natural look while marilyn on the other hand had a more seductive look but if i had to choose you know im gone ride for mine lmao so dorothy wins hands down in my opinion!
oh yeah i also googled Ava Lavinia Gardner (December 24, 1922 – January 25, 1990) was an American actress.
i had never heard of her before this.

Dorothy Jean Dandridge (November 9, 1922–September 8, 1965) was an American actress and popular singer. Dandridge was the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 5, 1962), born Norma Jeane Mortenson, was an American actress, singer, and model.

  1. Interesting. I was watching a movie based on Judy Garland's life over the weekend and in the movie there was a brief mention of Dororthy Dandridge about some award she wouldn't get in "in town" (Hollywood) and basically the inference was because she was black. I'd never really though how all of these actress functioned with each other because you never hear about black and white actors and actress co-mingling in those days. Remember when Halle did the Dorothy Dandridge movie? Now knowing that she has Monroe were friends, I wish they had included that in the movie. It would have provided an interesting perspective.
